Trailblazers Judges

Wendy The

Head of IT Engineering, Domino's

"Tech is international. It transcends language and culture. It broadens our world and gives us the ability to change lives."

Meet Wendy, the driving force behind the IT Engineering team at Domino's Europe. Alongside making her mark at one of the world's biggest fast-food brands, Wendy is a visionary leader with a passion for developing the next generation.

Through her tenure working alongside big industry players and innovative start-ups, Wendy embarked on her tech journey as an engineer. As she gained experience, she realised just how crucial talent is in shaping our digital landscape, leading her to explore a career in coaching aspiring trailblazers and helping them navigate their own tech journeys.

Now here's the cool part: as a leader, Wendy is keen to champion purpose-driven individuals. Her interest in unearthing new pioneers that prioritise shaping the industry's future is what brings her to the Trailblazers program. It's not just about being a whiz at coding or programming; it's about having a deeper drive and the vision to make a real difference.

And, with big tech on the rise and AI getting smarter by the day, Wendy is determined to redefine how we look at talent and contribution. Alongside practical expertise, Wendy is looking for a player who challenges cognitive bias and harnesses technology to lead ground-breaking advancements.

Judge's Insight

What trends in the tech market are you particularly excited about?

AI is the hot topic that's got everyone talking. It's creating quite a stir in the tech market, especially when we think about how it's shaping how we socialise and communicate.

What really piques Wendy's interest, having taken Women's Studies, is the impact AI relationships, more specifically virtual girlfriends, may have on social groups like the Incel community. With social media already sparking a rise in these underground groups, Wendy can't help but wonder how this new way of maintaining romantic relationships will affect our society.

Judge's Insight

What do you think is the biggest challenge facing the tech market today?

The tech industry is heavy with worry due to mass layoffs hitting tech giants like Facebook and Amazon. However, amidst this shake-up, a silver lining emerges for start-ups and SMEs; a more level playing field.

Gone are the days when having billions in funding guarantees success. Now, it's all about cultivating a stellar product, leveraging cutting-edge technology, and capturing the right market.

Chris believes that we are about to witness a shift towards greater parity, where dominance won't be dictated solely by cash but by the innovation and quality of the products that smaller firms bring to the table. In order words, it's time for the underdogs to shine.
